Opportunity Information
Title
ADAPT Pre-Screening
Description
ADAPT is a matching grant opportunity for Indiana small and mid-sized manufacturers (no more than 1,500 total employees, with preference for companies of 500 or fewer) whose current production is concentrated in components for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, a segment facing disruption as the industry expands into hybrid, battery-electric, and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. Roughly 1 in 5 jobs at Indiana's small and mid-sized automotive suppliers are tied to ICE production - ADAPT exists to incentivize manufacturers with a high concentration of ICE-specific component production to build manufacturing resilience by beginning production of non-ICE propulsion components.
Grants fund well-defined, technology-enabled capital investment projects that add new capability to produce components for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Applications are evaluated through a competitive peer review process. Awards are expected to range from $100,000 to $1,000,000, with a minimum 1:1 match required in every potential funding category - capital equipment, capital-expense software, and workforce training.

Additional Eligibility Information
The full list of eligibility criteria is in the Pre-Application Screening. Review it before starting the application to confirm your company and project qualify. Applicants must be for-profit manufacturers headquartered in Indiana that are currently in production of parts or components within the automotive supply chain and planning to make investments that will allow the production of parts, components or materials for hybrid, plug-in electric hybrid, plug-in electric drive, and hydrogen fuel cell electric on-road vehicles in accordance with section 712 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (42 U.S.C. 16062). The full list of eligible vehicle types appears in the pre-application.
Applicants may have no more than 1,500 total employees (including any parent or affiliated companies), and the Indiana facility where grant-funded equipment will be installed must have 500 or fewer employees. Grant-funded equipment must remain in the Indiana county where it is installed.
Preference will be given to companies with 500 or fewer total employees (including any parent or affiliated companies). The ADAPT program will prefer organizations whose current manufacturing subsector will face greater headwinds as hybrid and electrified propulsion grows its share of the vehicle market. Ideal applicants will have an established and successful track record of manufacturing and the ability to quantify the need for their grant application project to strengthen their company's long-term competitiveness. Applications that include workforce training tied directly to the new equipment and technology will be more competitive. Applicant profile and readiness, operational transformation, capital investment, business case, workforce impact, impact of the grant, and economic potential for Indiana are all considered in review.
